Why become a staff member at CYO Camp?

Give children an opportunity to sing camp songs around a campfire, hike, sleep in a cabin or tent, do arts and crafts, go to the beach, swim at our pool, learn about nature and meet new friends.

Have an excuse to spend the summer at camp and act like a kid again.

Mentor a child and possibly inspire them to succeed in school and college.

Meet a great group of people who share the same goals with you.

Take part in an organization with over 64 years of camping tradition.

We appreciate your interest in CYO Camp, and please realize from the beginning that working at camp is more than a job!

The Job

A job as a CYO Camp staff member is extraordinarily demanding and you should only consider applying for a position if you love working with children. Life at camp requires staff members to sacrifice their normal living habits and serve as role models to our campers. This job is not for everyone! Successful counselors are dynamic, energetic and patient people who thrive on being outdoors and recognize that children need support and encouragement to be responsible adults.

The Staff

CYO Camp searches the world around to recruit talented, enthusiastic young adults to serve our participants. CYO Camp summer staff travel from Australia, Europe, and across the United States to be part of our summer programming for youth. They serve a unique role as mentors, peer leaders and role models who engage campers in a manner that balances fun, friendship, responsibility, respect and trust.

Our eclectic bunch includes talented artists, dancers, sports fanatics, nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts. Counselors share these talents with campers during our afternoon elective blocks, where counselors design unique activities to engage, entertain and educate. Such activities included archery, swim lessons, canoeing, hip hop dance, basketball, soccer, disc golf, lacrosse, orienteering, drawing and painting, mask making, tie dying, animal tracking, hiking and exploration. Our counselors' positive attitudes and unshakable patience ensures a summer campers will never forget.

Life Long Friends

While role modeling for campers is the most important aspect of your job, being a counselor also provides an incredible opportunity to develop friendships with other staff. CYO Camp is a very close knit community with over 64 years of history and traditions and there is something special about living and working with people who share your enthusiasm for working with children. Our returning staff love staff week where they have an opportunity to meet new friends and reunite with old friends. At the end of the summer you will be amazed at the friendships you have made.

Thanks again for you interest in the CYO Camp. If you have any questions, contact Rick Garcia at 707.874.0207 rgarcia@cccyo.org.
